I made this picture in the 1980's, and it remains one of my all time favorite photographs. The two components were taken with a medium format film camera. I hired the horse trainer whose horse would rear on command, and I purposely photographed the rearing horse under a white sky so I could sandwich another transparency with it. When the two slides were placed together, the white (i.e. clear on film) sky allowed the lightning to be seen in its place. The sheen on the back of the horse allowed the same magenta color to show, suggesting a realistic shot. I captured the lightning in Phoenix, Arizona with f/8 at night with a long shutter speed and 100 ISO film. I sandwiched the two slides together and made a duplicate transparency, and that became my original. When I first learned Photoshop in the early 90's, I scanned the two elements with an Imacon scanner and then put the two pictures together digitally.

I also remember seeing it sometime ago & thats what I admired the most about you (among other things),is that you don't just think of the idea. You make it happen. And with digital, you are allowed to go wild. Great time to be into photography. Great shot.Richard
