This is a 1951 Mercury hotrod with a chopped top. I photographed it on a street in Los Angeles with a boring background, so I composited an architectural facade from Cusco, Peru behind it. I altered the colors of the building to match the car using Image > adjustments > hue/saturation. The cobblestone street comes from the background shot. To select the car, I used the quick selection tool in Photoshop and then fine tuned the selection with the lasso tool. In virtually all composites, the light on the various components has to match or else the resulting image won't look real. In this case, however, direct sunlight illuminated the car but the architecture was taken in diffused light. That is not ideal, but for some reason it doesn't bother me in this instance. The sunlight makes the intense magenta color of the car really stand out against the building facade. My settings for the shot of the car were 1/250, f/11, and 200 ISO. If you are a serious black and white photographer, this picture might hurt your eyes! But I love the outrageous colors.
