One of my all time favorite pictures is this portrait of two red heads. I bought this miniature sofa specifically to shoot puppies, and I photographed the standard poodle pup on it alone. Then, a year later, I met the adorable little girl and thought how great it would be to have photographed her with this puppy. So, I posed her on the little sofa with her head resting on a pillow at the angle it would be if she were laying against the puppy. In my studio, I used the same kind of lighting as I had for the poodle -- one medium sized softbox and a Speedotron power pack. Then, using Photoshop, I composited the two photos together. Dealing with hair is very difficult, and to be honest, I'm surprised the final result looks so believable. To blend the girl's hair with the side of the puppy took me about an hour using the clone tool and the healing brush.

Jim - Thank you, Daniel. I really didn't think I could do as good a job as I did simply because hair is so tough (i.e. virtually impossible) to deal with and make it look real. I agree with you on the cuteness chart. Over the top. I loved photographing this little girl. She has an adorable personality besides being beautiful.

Daniel A Reynaud - Hi Jim, wow !! I thought I had a good eye, but you had me fooled on this one !! This is a fantastic composite and the cuteness factor is off the chart :).

Jim - Thank you very much, Rohinton. At first, I didn't think I would be able to make this look as good as it does. But with patience and trying various tools, it worked.
