I took this picture in the highlands of Papua New Guinea in 2005. This is the Huli tribe, famous for their yellow face paint. I asked a group of the men to pose for me in circle while I laid on the ground shooting up with a wide angle lens. The challenge was the extreme contrast. The light came from above -- the sky -- so I had to use fill flash to balance the exposure. Otherwise the faces of the tribesmen would have been terribly underexposed or the background would appear completely blown out. At f/13, the 16mm focal length I used gave me complete depth of field. My other settings were 1/250 (the sync speed) and 400 ISO. In post-processing, I did some burning and dodging to balance out the exposure.
