I photographed this warthog in Chobe National Park in Botswana. The sun was fairly high in the sky, and in most instances that would be unappealingly contrasty for wildlife. But a tree cast a shadow on the rear portion of the animal's body, and that left the head highlighted by the sun. Our attention is therefore focused entirely on the unusual and bizarre face of the warthog. So, this picture works for me. To bring back detail in the white whiskers, I used the highlight slider in ACR. In addition, in Photoshop I used the burn tool to darken the grass in the immediate foreground. I used a 500mm lens for the shot, and my settings were 1/320, f/8, and 640 ISO.
