I set up a photo session for my photo group in Agra, India at the shore of the Yamuna River with a lovely model in a stunning sari. My intention was to have the Taj Mahal in the background. This particular morning was extremely foggy and visibility was quite limited. This meant that the distant Taj was totally obscured. We couldn't even see a hint of it. Not to be thwarted by reality, I used my Photoshop skills to place the Taj where it should be in relation to the model. I used a picture of it I'd taken the day before. To add the famous icon to the background, I selected it with the rectangular marquee tool, copied that to the clipboard, then pasted it into the top of the picture of the model. Next, I lowered the opacity of the layer to 32%. Finally, I used a layer mask and the gradient tool to attenuate the bottom of the Taj photo so it seamlessly blended with the lower photo. My settings for the shot of the young woman were 1/160, f/11, and 1000 ISO. I used a 24-105mm lens for the model and a 100-400mm telephoto for the architecture. It's amazing how colors really pop in fog.
