Hippos are very dangerous when they are out of the water because they feel vulnerable and, therefore, they are quite aggressive. The last thing you ever want to do is get between a hippo and water. That's a guaranteed formula to be charged. I took this picture with a Canon 500mm f/4 telephoto plus a 1.4x teleconverter, giving me 700mm of focal length. I wanted to fill the frame with that massive head and body. The low angled sun light provided great side lighting, and that accentuated the rough texture of the skin. I cloned out a few out of focus grasses in front of the animal's nose because they were a little distracting. My settings were 1/640, f/9, and 400 ISO.
