A rarely seen and little known African animal is the genet. It is cat-like in appearance but moves as fast as a fox. Just to catch it in focus is a challenge. I took this just after sunset which is why I used a fairly high ISO, and my shutter was fast as well to make sure the images were sharp. For a few of my trips to Africa, I was using the Canon 7D Mark II and the 100-400mm zoom, as I did here, but the noise was too much for my taste especially in low light. And, too often, nature photographers are forced to shoot in low light circumstances. With the Canon 1Dx Mark II I feel much more confident in using high ISO settings. They come in very handy. For example, had I been using the 1Dx Mark II for this shot, I could have raised the ISO and obtained more depth of field. My settings for this were 1/500, f/7.1, 1250 ISO.
