This very strange animal is a giant anteater that I captured a c couple of years ago on the extension portion of my Pantanal photo tour in Brazil. These slow moving creatures have very poor eyesight, and if you are very quiet in approaching them, you can get within 12 to 15 feet. I used a 70-200mm telephoto zoom for this picture, and the lens was set to 140mm. That tells you how close I was. These guys can eat up to 30,000 ants in one day, and this is especially impressive considering they sleep about 16 hours daily. My settings were 1/200, f/16, and 400 ISO. I used a small lens aperture because I wanted to capture in tack sharp detail all of the interesting detail in such an unusual subject.
