I have photographed carnival in Venice for so many years that I now consider using non-Venetian backgrounds that I've seen from other parts of Europe. Backgrounds are just as important as subjects in making a photograph work. Many of the costumed models get together in various palaces, castles, and gardens throughout Europe, so a composite I put together might possibly reflect what has already taken place. In this instance, I used a shot from the Kremlin in Moscow as the background. I then tweaked the color of the beautiful costumes to harmonize with the colors in the 16th century architecture.
