I realize this guy isn't as adorable as the panda I posted, but I found it quite intriguing and a very cool subject to photograph. At my Frog and Reptile workshop I conducted this past weekend in Kansas City, we often have new animals that I've never seen before -- like this one. This is a red-eye crocodile skink from the island of New Guinea. I didn't use flash, opting in this case to use the ambient light in the conference room of the hotel. The original background was black, so I replaced it with a shot of out of focus foliage from my files. My settings were 1/80, f/7.1, and 2500. In post processing, I used Topaz DeNoise AI to completely eliminate the noise. Notice the natural looking catchlight in the eye. The small reflection of light in the eye is actually the overhead fluorescent fixture in the room. My next Frog workshop will be Feb. 24-25.
