The ideal for out of focus foliage behind macro subjects is that the background be so out of focus that there is no definition in the plants, rocks, trees, etc. at all. As soon as there is definition, those shapes take attention away from the subjects. Sometimes, the subject is too close to the background so even with a large aperture and the use of a macro lens, the background won't be out of focus enough. In those cases, you can replace the background entirely in Photoshop -- which is what I did here. Note that I even meticulously cut around the antennae of the mating butterflies.
