I photographed this dancer in Bali, Indonesia during a stage performance. Because I was in the audience, I used a long lens and ended up composing this with a 400mm focal length. I particularly liked the sidelighting on the young woman’s face, and although the background was fairly muted, I used the burn tool in Photoshop to make it even darker. This made the dancer’s face more prominent. My settings were 1/320, f/6.3, and 1600 ISO. I could have cropped this into a vertical composition, but I preferred to retain the space around her. To make her skin look even more porcelain than it already was, I used the program Portrait Professional. This eliminated every imperfection in the makeup and in her facial skin.
