One of my favorite Photoshop plugins is Topaz 'BuzSim'. It turns any photograph into what looks like a very detailed painting. This is a portrait of two Balinese dancers, and I asked them to close their eyes so their beautiful, stylized makeup could be fully appreciated. This morning the sun was out, so I moved the girls into the shade to use the diffused light for the portrait rather than the contrasty and harsh direct light that would have ruined the shot. I used a 135mm focal length, and my settings were 1/100, f/7.1, and 2500 ISO. To maintain complete depth of field even with the relatively large lens aperture, I made sure the two dancers were equidistant to the camera. Had one been sitting even a few inches closer or farther than the other one, both wouldn't have been tack sharp. Even with a painterly image, sharpness is essential.
