There is a technique in the program Corel Painter whereby a photograph can be repeated in very unique ways. For this picture, I started with a photo of a mask I had purchased in Venice, Italy. I pasted the mask on the face of a woman, and then using Painter I created a diagonal pattern of that composite. I then mirrored this to create the symmetry and combined that with a picture of fire. Finally, I took a closeup of a cat and pasted the cat's eye into the mask to embellish the surrealism of the image.
