This is Cape Bonavista Lighthouse in Newfoundland, Canada. I photographed it at sunrise using aperture priority at f/16 with a 24-105mm lens. To maximize depth of field and sharpness throughout, I focused at approximately 8 feet from the camera. I determined the optimal focusing distance by taking the focal length of the lens I was using -- 24mm in this case -- and dividing that by 3. This equals in feet, almost exactly, the hyperfocal distance which is defined as the optimal focus point for maximum depth of field given the placement of the lens and the aperture. My shutter was 1/4 second, and the ISO was 500. The rays of light occurred because I used a small lens aperture along with a wide angle lens.
