This photograph is not a work of art, obviously. It was one of those cute moments I had to capture on the floor of my office where my two dogs, 11 week old Teddy and one year old Princey, were sleeping together. I could have simply put the flash on my camera and taken it with direct front lighting, but that would have eliminated all the shadows that defined depth and dimension. On-camera flash is very flat, which is another way of saying the sense of depth has been eliminated. Instead, I bounced the flash off the ceiling. The camera was aimed downward and I twisted the flash head to point at the ceiling. I lost light that way, but that was a price I was willing to pay for more attractive lighting.
