This is a dawn shot of Taung Klat temple on little Mt. Popa Mountain near Bagan, Burma. I planned the itinerary of this photo tour so my group could stay one night in the lodge that offered this incredible view. My original thought was to photograph this scene after sunset, but the glow in the sky was in the wrong place. That told me dawn was the optimum time. This is a 5-frame HDR composite. That was important so I could show detail in the shadows around the trees and, at the same time, hold detail in the highlights on the temple. I used a 100-400mm Canon zoom, and the settings were 2 seconds, f/5, and 160 ISO. Notice that due to the distances involved, depth of field wasn’t relevant here. That’s why everything is sharp despite the fact I used a large lens aperture on a telephoto.
