I photographed this young red fox during one of my wildlife workshops. Expressions like this are so fleeting that you have to watch the animal through the viewfinder. When you see that special moment, you'll be ready. If you look directly with your eyes, the time it takes to bring the camera up to your face, compose, and shoot means you may very well miss the action. In addition, use the fastest frame rate available. Shooting 3 or 4 frames at a time gives you editing choices. There is always going to be one frame that's a little better than the others. My settings here were 1/125, f/9, and 1250 ISO. I used a 70-200mm lens handheld. My next wildlife workshop will be on January 14-17, 2020 when all the animals look their best with a luxurious winter coat.
