I photographed the beautiful Oak Alley plantation home in Louisiana for the first time in 1984. This is the picture took at that time. Now there is a paved walkway down the middle of the centuries old oaks, and while it was well done architecturally, I much prefer the original look. There are three things certain in life: death, taxes, and change. It seems as time goes on, all of the famous places around the world change, and usually for the worse. There is now a walkway and stage inside the Roman coliseum, there is a new lower level in the Eiffel Tower, and Angkor Wat in Cambodia is now full of wooden boardwalks and railings. What a shame that governments can't leave things alone.

Jim - Barbara, The most I travel, the more I see it. I have no idea what these people are thinking.

Barbara Vickers - Jim, I completely agree. I too have seen many natural places get paved.
