Penguins are very awkward when walking on land. Indeed, they are quite comical as they waddle to and fro. But in the water, they swim like mini-torpedos. They are ultra streamlined and very fast. In fact, they can generate such speed in the water that they can propel themselves above the water and go airborne as if they were shot from a canon. This is a chinstrap penguin, and because of its speed, I was lucky to capture it in focus especially since I was shooting from a dinghy that was constantly moving in the waves. My settings were 1/800, f/5.6, and 320 ISO, and I shot this with a 200mm focal length. The image is cropped because I realized that had I used a longer lens, such as a 400mm, it would have been that much more difficult to hold focus on the fast moving bird. Using a shorter focal length didn't give me a frame-filling shot, true, but at least it was sharp. I took this picture in Antarctica.
