Here is another shot from my Venice photo workshop last month. I absolutely loved this interior, and the costumes we had to photograph were fantastic. I wanted to get both the foreground and back sharp. In essence, this picture has two subjects -- the models and the palace environment -- and that requires that both areas of the image be in focus so we can see and appreciate all of the amazing detail. I used a 14mm Sigma f/1.8 lens, but even with the extensive depth of field inherent in such a lens, I couldn't get as close as I wanted to the models because that would decrease the DOF. I wasn't using a tripod, and I didn't want a super high ISO. So, I moved back a couple of feet and that made the difference. Now, even with my large aperture, I had everything sharp. My settings were 1/160, f/3.5, and 1600 ISO.
