I took this photograph at one of the best birding spots in America. This is the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine, Florida. It’s such a fantastic place to photograph birds because the alligators and other reptiles housed at this facility pray on any rodents that might try to get up into the trees and eat the eggs of the birds. All of the birds know this, and they feel confident that their nests will be protected. There is a wooden boardwalk that goes throughout the facility, and the only problem is when the boardwalk vibrates when other photographers or tourists walk by. Besides that, it’s a fabulous place to do nature photography. As long as you keep the shutter speed high (I recommend at least 1/500), you won’t have any problems. I took this picture with a 500 mm Canon telephoto, and my settings were 1/640, f/6.3, and 250 ISO.
