Between 1845 and 1852, a fungus destroyed about 75% of the potato crop in Ireland. Two million people starved to death and two million people emigrated to the U.S. Ireland lost about half its population. These sculptures are on display on a street in Dublin, and they represent the pain and suffering of the Irish people. They are spaced further apart than you see here, and photographically I didn't like that because it wasn't possible, in my opinion, to take a dramatic picture with such spacing. Therefore, I photographed each one separately with off-camera flash set to ETTL and then, in Photoshop, assembled them together for a more visually compelling image. With the black background of the night sky, it was easy to do. I used a 24-105mm lens for each individual image, my settings were 1/125, f/8, and 400 ISO.
