My snowy owl workshop is early next month in Canada, and it's always exciting to photograph these stunning white birds against snow. What is truly remarkable is how the current autofocus systems in our cameras can track focus on fast-moving subjects even when there is little contrast. This is especially true when using the eye-tracking feature. This is a female snowy landing on the snow captured with my previous camera, the Canon 1Dx Mark II at 14 frames per second. Even with this 'older' technology, I was able to lock focus on the birds without any problems. The upcoming workshop will be the first time I've used the Canon R5 for the owls, and I'm really looking forward to it. My settings for this picture were 1/3200, f/13, and 1250, and I used the 100-400mm telephoto. Next month I'll be using the 100-500mm lens.
