This is a beautiful door in the City Palace of Jaipur, India. A guard in traditional attire kindly posed for me. Architecture and architectural details like doors and windows are usually symmetrical. Therefore, it's important to stand dead center on the building to underscore that symmetry. Or, you can stand decidedly off-center for a different kind of look. However, don't position yourself slightly off-center or else the lines of the architecture will look skewed and it will look like you made a mistake. Many people find it challenging to find the center point, so draw an imaginary right angle line coming from, in this case, the center of the door. That's where you need to stand to take the picture. Even if you are off by 5 or 6 inches, the picture won't be right. My settings for this shot were 1/320, f/11, and 1000 ISO, and I used a 24-105mm lens.
