This is a Gelada baboon I photographed in the Simien Mountains in northern Ethiopia. What is remarkable about these primates is they allow a very close approach. In fact, my photography tour group and I felt like we were part of the troop as we walked among the animals. As you can see, this picture was taken with a wide angle lens. I used a 16-35mm lens set to 35mm, and I was about 3 feet away from this male as I was lying on the ground with the camera angled upward. My settings were 1/400, f/16, and 1000 ISO. All I did in post-processing was lighten the eyes a little.
