I have many shots of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis; I think this one is particularly unique. The combination of a fog and the bare trees of winter made this image very graphic. Even though it's a very busy image, I like the interplay of the complex branches with the simplicity of the arch's design. I used a 16mm focal length, and the settings were 1/250, f/8, and 200 ISO. The black and white nature of this image made metering tricky. If I were still shooting film, I would have used an incident light meter. With digital, though, the immediate feedback on the LCD screen allowed me to tweak the settings until I liked what I saw.
