This is a classic example of how graphic design makes a shot. This Japanese crane flew right over me, and by shooting at 10 frames per second I was able to capture the fully outstretched wings in perform form. Set against a blue sky, the white-on-blue made a striking contrast. I like everything about this picture including the diagonal way it fits into the frame. But the most striking aspect of this is the design. This is one of the most important ingredients to successful pictures, and I am always on the lookout for beautiful lines and great designs. No matter the subject: nudes, architecture, flowers, silhouettes, the legs of a horse -- it's all about design. My settings for this shot were 1/1000, f/11, and 800 ISO. I used a 70-200mm for the picture set to 95mm. The bird was very close to me as it flew overhead.

Don - I love the simplicity of this picture. It is so clean and sharp. I enjoy taking images of birds in flight so I can really appreciate this photograph.
