took this shot of a great grey owl many years ago when I was still shooting film. Back then, the fastest shutter speed available to me on my Mamiya RZ 67 was 1/400, so sharp flight shots were virtually impossible. I had to settle for more static shots in nature. Most photographers considered this medium format beast to be a studio camera only, but I used it for everything. When I got the shot and it was sharp, it was really something. 35mm images looked pale by comparison. I took this picture in British Columbia, Canada, and I remember using Mamiya's 500mm lens. All of my wildlife images at that time were done with Fujichrome Provia 100. The aperture would definitely have been wide open, which was f/5.6, so I could use the fastest shutter possible -- probably 1/250th here. With this camera, I always used a tripod. The exposure, focus, and film advance were all manual.
