High speed capture

This is a giant river otter that was very successful in catching a large fish in the Pantanal region of Brazil. Notice the extreme low angle. I had the option for my photo tour group of using a boat with a high profile in which photographers can sit in a comfortable seat and mount their cameras on a built-in gimbal head ideal for long and heavy lenses or a low-to-the-water boat for shots like this. I chose the latter because these kinds of low angled compositions are more compelling in my opinion. For this picture, I laid on the floor of the boat and rested my long lens on the gunwale (the top edge of the hull) which was about 16 inches above the water. I used a Canon 500mm f/4 telephoto plus a 1.4x teleconverter giving me 700mm of focal length. The sunrise lighting was beautiful. What I particularly like is the S-curve shape of the water drops. My settings were 1/2000, f/5.6, and 3200 ISO. The frame rate I use for all action pictures is 14 fps.
