This is Prambanan, a 9th-century Hindu temple on Java, the main island in Indonesia. The complex closes at 6pm, but twilight occurred 30 minutes later. I knew the ruins were illuminated beautifully, and the best pictures would be from within the closed gates. In Third World countries, a few dollars goes a long way to circumventing rules and policies. It never hurts to ask, and as I predicted, a security guard was happy to allow my photo tour group and I to stay until dark. He made some money and we got the best pictures. The cobalt colors of the sky contrasted dramatically with the artificial lights on the temple. My settings were 20 seconds, f/7.1, and 320 ISO. I used daylight white balance which is normally the best option for this kind of lighting.
