Capybara are the largest rodents in the world. They are, in essence, monster rats. They make up about 30% of a jaguar's diet in the Pantanal region of Brazil. Here, a cattle tyrant bird is hitching a ride. I captured this from a boat that was moving past the subjects, so I had to think very quickly and shoot fast to catch a composition I liked because it was constantly changing. I don't use a monopod when photographing in this kind of situation even when shooting with a heavy 500mm f/4 lens. I feel the support is too inhibiting. As one gets older, weight becomes more and more of a serious consideration. I already have lower back and shoulder issues from carrying a heavy backpack for decades, so at some point I know I'll have to start using a monopod to support the weight of my heavy gear. My settings for this shot were 1/320, f/11, and 640 ISO.
