Icelandic horses are beautiful, and it's hard to drive past a farm with this special breed and not stop to photograph them. What makes or breaks pictures of horses, besides the background and the lighting, of course, is the shape of the legs, the way the horse holds its head, the action of the mane, and the extension of the tail. In other words, the graphic design of the horse is paramount. Fast frame rates are essential in capturing posturing that makes strong images, and whenever I photograph horses in motion I'm always using the fastest frame rate on the camera. My settings for this picture were 1/500, f/5, 320 ISO, and I used a 70-200mm lens.
