Most photographers are content to capture what they see. I do that also, of course, but I also like pushing the envelope to capture what I imagine. So, I used Photoshop to place these two beautiful models from New York into a stunning Venetian palace. Backgrounds are just as important in making a picture work as the subject, and I think this image proves that. Making a selection around the feathers took time and patience, but I feel the end result was worth it. The final touch was using Topaz Impression to add an ethereal glow to the image.
It was very important that the ceiling be as sharp as the models. In low light environments, hand holding the camera means depth of field often suffers. If the ceiling were 'almost sharp', the image wouldn't be successful in my opinion. The solution is to use a tripod or, as I did here, take two sharp pictures and then assemble them together in post-processing.
