This is the Bromo Caldera at sunrise on the island of Java in Indonesia. It's one of the greatest landscape vistas I've had the pleasure to photograph. Indonesia has 129 active volcanoes, and two of them are seen here -- Mt. Bromo in the foreground and Mt. Semeru in the background. I used a 24-105mm lens set to 80mm, and the camera settings were 20 seconds, f/8, and 250 ISO. The early morning sun was penetrating several layers of thin clouds and mist which diminished the intensity of the light, hence the long shutter speed. I shoot all sunrise and sunsets on daylight white balance so I can see the beautiful warm tones on the LCD screen on the back of the camera. If you shoot on AWB, the camera wants to 'correct' the golden colors to white light, which loses the beauty of the moment. You can recover the color in post-, but why not see the great colors on the camera's monitor at the time of shooting?
