A new feature of the Jember Fashion Carnival in Indonesia is a night parade. It was pretty spectacular. I photographed this costumed participant with well-placed lights lining the parade route. The night illumination, although bright, forced the ISO to be high because photographically, the street was still quite a bit darker than even an overcast day. However, the artificial lighting, the unique contrast, and the dark background produced a very different look and I liked it a lot. All of my pictures were taken with the Canon 100-500mm lens. My settings for this shot were 1/200, f/6.3, and 2000 ISO. The model is wearing contact lenses, as many of the paraders did, and that made for a particularly dramatic appearance. I used auto white balance, and a central cluster of AF points to lock onto the faces to render sharp images.
