This is the unique King of Wings formation in the Bisti Badlands in northern New Mexico. It is striking to see, especially in sunrise or sunset light. I used a 16-35mm wide angle here, and the settings were 1/640, f/8, and 1000 ISO. I now use a tripod less and less; in the past, 1000 ISO for landscapes was a terrible idea. Now, this kind of ISO setting produces high quality images. Therefore, I typically travel much lighter than I used to and only bring a tripod if I'll be shooting at twilight or night or if I specifically want to blur moving water or clouds.
