One of the highlights on my photo tour to the Pantanal in Brazil is the opportunity to photograph birds diving for fish. This is a ringed kingfisher, and they are extremely fast. With a telephoto lens, it's almost impossible to follow them in flight. The only way to get a picture like this is to pre-focus on the fish (which my local guide threw in the river) because that's where the bird is going to be. In addition, you have to use the fastest frame rate on the camera. This shot was taken a couple of years ago with my Canon 1Dx Mark II and 14 fps. A 6 fps camera can do the job, but you'll miss nuances in the position of the wings. When I lead another photo tour to the Pantanal in November, 2022, I'll use the Canon R5 and shoot at 20 fps. The more the better. My settings for this picture were 1/5000, f/8, and 4000 ISO. I used a 100-400mm telephoto lens set to 349mm.
