I photographed these little green bee eaters in Sri Lanka. At 450mm, the depth of field was quite shallow. My settings were 1/640, f/8, and 5000 ISO. You can see that it wasn't feasible to use a smaller aperture because it was quite dark and the 5000 ISO setting was as high as I wanted to go. I didn't feel comfortable slowing the shutter down for fear of losing sharpness on the small birds. They move and flicker so quickly. My only other option was to wait for the two bee eaters to be positioned on the branch so they were equidistant to the camera. I got lucky, and when that happened I had all the depth of field I needed. This is uncropped, and I hand held the camera and lens in the vehicle.
