The Dallol Depression is the lowest point on earth. It is 430 feet (130 meters) below sea level and is found in the northern part of Ethiopia. It truly looks like an alien-like landscape, and it is very, very hot. My photo tour group and I walked the few hundred feet from our Land Rovers into the heart of the amazing formations and colors in 104 degree heat (40 degrees Celsius). We all felt like we were visiting another planet. I took this picture with a 16-35mm Canon lens, hand held, set to the widest focal length. This is not enhanced at all. These colors are real. My settings were 1/160, f/9, and 2500 ISO.
