Another cat I photographed with my medium format film camera in the 90's is this baby Canada lynx. You can never go wrong with diffused light. It's consistently flattering to any wildlife subject. With sunrise and sunset light, the results are often beautiful (like on the previous post) but sometimes, depending on the angle of the light to the camera and the amount of contrast present, images can turn out disappointing. For example, if you shoot 15 minutes before sunset you'll have more contrast than if the picture is taken two minutes before sunset. If the sun is setting behind the subject at a 45 degree angle, that's not nearly as attractive as side or front light when the sun is almost touching the horizon. But diffused light is always complementary. That's why I've always loved this picture. In addition, of course, cats have such large eyes relative to their face size and that gives them a look of incomparable innocence. I remember taking this with a 350mm Mamiya telephoto, and my settings, though unrecorded, were probably 1/250 and f/4.5.
