Almost without exception, landscape photographs done during midday don't look good. They are contrasty with black shadows and highlights that are too light, and virtually no landscape looks good under these circumstances. However, in art there are usually exceptions. This picture of the famous, iconic shot of the Mittens in Monument Valley is an example. We had an incredible (and very unusual) sky, and there was partial sun. Using post-processing techniques in ACR, I lightened the shadows and toned down the highlights plus added some clarity and vibrance. I think this picture of Monument Valley works well. It doesn't have the ultra dramatic lighting of sunrise or sunset, but still I like it.
