I photographed St. Stephen Island near Budva, Montenegro under an incredible sunset sky. The only thing I did in post-processing was use the dodge tool in Photoshop to slightly lighten the buildings on the island. I used a 24-105mm lens, and the settings were 1/80, f/7.1, and 500 ISO. When the elements in the scene are far from the camera, depth of field is no longer a factor. Since the sharpest lens aperture is typically one or two f/stops down from wide open -- i.e. f/5.6 to f/8 -- it makes sense to choose an aperture in this range, hence, my choice of f/7.1. I hand held the camera from the terrace of an outdoor restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean. The participants in the photo tour of the Balkans and I simply waited for the sunset, got up and took the pictures, and then returned to the table to finish eating dinner.
