My wife found a newborn deer last night under one of our trees right next to our house. We didn't know how long it had been there, so we tried to give it some milk but it didn't drink. This morning it was still there, and we have no idea if it has been abandoned or if the mother will return. We're going to set up a motion-sensitive cam to record the possible return of the mother, but in the meantime I took advantage of the fact that newborn deer don't move at all. Movement attracts the eyes of predators. I moved within inches of the fawn and used a 16-35mm lens to capture this full frame composition. My settings were 1/50, f/9, 2500 ISO. I had to use a high ISO because it is dark under the tree.
