This is a remarkable gathering of northern cape gannets at Cape St. Mary's, Newfoundland. It was my favorite place to visit on my photo tour here in 2017. There are over 50,000 birds (including black-legged kittywakes and common murres), and it's a very exciting place to photograph. Nesting behavior, birds in flight, aerobatics -- it was spectacular. I used all of my lenses, from a 500mm to a 24-105mm This shot was taken with a 50mm focal length on the 24-105mm lens. I used my standard settings for birds in flight -- 1/3200, f/11, and the ISO varied per the light. In this case, that turned out to be 1600. Sometimes the fog rolled in and 'bird rock' became completely obscured. It's interesting to note that the northern gannets are closely related to the blue footed boobys in the Galapagos Islands.
