One of my favorite shots taken at my semi-annual frog and reptile workshop is this top-side view of a panther chameleon. They have the most unique, bulging eyes that move independently of each other. Panthers come in different colors, but I feel this super saturated red is especially dramatic. I used a ring flash for the lighting because it simulates diffused daylight in that the light wraps nicely around the subject with a minimum of contrast. My settings were f/32, the shutter speed of 1/200 sync-ed with the flash, 100 ISO, and I used a 50mm macro lens. I set the camera to manual exposure mode and the flash to ETTL. It's the automatic exposure mode on the flash (i.e. ETTL) that regulates the exposure.
