The key to capturing sharp night pictures is to use a tripod or set the camera to a high ISO. However, when photographing fireworks -- and on New Year's Eve there are a lot of fireworks displays -- a low ISO works well because the fiery bursts are so brilliant. A tripod is a must, however, if you want straight streaks of light. These bursts were captured with an exposure time of 1.6 seconds, a lens aperture of f/14, and an ISO of 100. The way to guarantee perfect images is to have in your files dozens of fireworks that can be combined with iconic subjects like skylines, famous monuments, great architecture, etc. Then you end up with a perfect image. That's what I did here with the Statue of Liberty.
