In the Bangkok flower market, the combination of colors is beautiful. Piles and piles of orchids abound, and it's a pleasure to photograph such an amazing sight. It's very tempting to grab shots in the low light environment by raising the ISO, but a tripod is a much better option -- even though it's a pain in the neck to carry around. These orchids were on a table on the sidewalk, and a large plastic overhang protected shoppers from the rain. But that meant the light level was quite low. In order to have complete depth of field, a fairly low ISO, and a perfect exposure, I used a tripod.
I took this picture with a 24-105mm lens set to 28mm, 1/4 second shutter speed, f/10, and 500 ISO. The detail is so wonderful to see and photograph in a picture like this, that you don't want even the corners to be soft. That's why depth of field from the immediate foreground to the background is so important.
