I'm in Churchill, Manitoba now to begin my polar bear photo tour. The bears gather in this part of Canada waiting for the pack ice to form on Hudson Bay so they can hunt seals. I took this shot last year, and it shows what massive animals these are. Many people who see my Great White Pyrenees comment on how huge he is, and for a dog, he is quite large at 150 pounds. They say he looks like a polar bear. But when I saw polar bears in the wild for the first time, there was no comparison. Male polar bears outweigh my Pyrenees by more than 10 times. They can weigh up to 1700 pounds. I took this shot with a 500mm focal length, and the settings were 1/800, f/7.1, and 800 ISO.
